Intervention (pta’s educational background may exceed pt’s)
What are some traits of an ideal pt/pta relationship?
good communication
exploit individual strengths, strengthen weaknesses as a team
trust, mutual respect, adaptability, cooperation
What responsibilities does the pta give to pt?
communicate inadequacies in training/experience
communicate changes in pat status
maintain competence, seek out CE
What are some ways ptas can handle pat questions?
answer ?s regarding rationale for treatments
find out answers you don’t know, refer to others ?s outside scope
what are some activities that ptas are involved in?
patient care activities implementation of interventions data collection to assist pt in eval changes in pat status, decision to treat, progression in program modification within the plan of care
compare ways pts and ptas can make modifications
ptas make modifications within the plan of care, during an individual treatment, pts make major changes and evalute over the entire episode of care
what are the levels of supervision?
direct personal,
direct (on site)
general -at least available by telecommunications
what are some of the roles and responsibilities of the pt?
interpretation of referrals
initial eval and diagnosis
development or modification of poc including treatment goals
determine what can be delegated to pta
establishment of discharge plan
timely review of treatment documentation and reevaluation of pat
What four areas of patient care are the sole responsibility of the PT?
Examination Evaluation Diagnosis Prognosis (5th is intervention)
