What was life like in pre-industrial Britain
lower classes experienced Cruelty

Having little free time meant people had less time to participate in sport
Wide spread illiteracy effect
If people could not read the rules then they could not play by them, thus excluding them
Living rural effect
Living rural meant there were less people involved in sports, making it unpopular
Limited transport effect
Any teams created would not be able to travel to play against other teams
Class division effect
Lower and upper classes would not have played the same sports

Construction of society around the relationship derived from holding of land in exchange for labour or service
Recreation rules characteristics
Many were illiterate and so any rules were basic and applied to a particular community
What were activities like:
aggressive, male dominated, many injuries, lots of damage, harsh
What was mob football like?
Played by lower class in fields using a pig bladder, male dominated and violent due to cruel society.
Effect of limited transport
Teams couldn’t travel to further fixtures, sport was localised
