Methods of training Flashcards
What are the five methods of training
Continuous, fartlek, interval, circuit, weight
What is continuous training?
Low intensity exercise for long periods of time without rest intervals such as jogging. Develops cardiovascular and respiratory system to improve aerobic endurance.
What is fartlek training?
When the pace of the run is varied to stress both the aerobic and anaerobic system =. This improves their stamina and their speed of their recovery.
What is interval training?
A form of training where intervals of high-intensity and followed with recovery. Use to improve anaerobic power and can be adapted
What is circuit training?
Series of exercises at stations. Can vary the reps, set and time spent. Can be designed for any aspect of fitness.
What is weight training?
A series of resistance exercises using free weights and machines. Used to develop muscular endurance.
4 classifications of weight exercise
shoulders and arms, trunk and back, legs and entire body.
What is proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF)
Passive stretching held by an external force (partner or wall). Effective for flexibility and increased range of motion. Muscle is isometrically contracted, relaxed then stretched again.
