A

P: Pilot: Ensuring “I” as the pilot am fit to operate the aircraft using the IMSAFE checklist

A: Aircraft: Making sure the aircraft is airworthy to conduct normal operations, that includes preflighting, AV1ATE, ARROW, and checking MEL lists if there are any.

V: EnVironment: Checking the weather to ensure it’s safe for operations of the aircraft that day

E: External Pressures: Minding and mitigating external pressures of meeting timelines, checkrides, pressures outside of the normal operations of the aircraft; done to mitigate distractions.

How will I determine if I, as the pilot, is fit to fly?

A

Using the IMSAFE making sure I:

Illness: If I’m ill, altitude does nothing to make me feel better

Medication: I’m not on any medication that would hinder my abilities to operate an aircraft

Stress: Managing stress personally, or professionally as a pilot (i.e anxiety etc.)

Alcohol: 8 hrs bottle to throttle; .04 BAC content

Fatigue: Ensure I’m well rested before my flight

Eating: Making sure I’ve the energy through food/water before flying

A
  1. A private pilot may not act as PIC of an aircraft connected with any business or employment if it is only incidental to that business or employment and does not carry passengers or property for compensation or hire.
  2. May not pay less than pro rata share of operating expenses (i.e. oil, fuel, airport fees, rental fees
  3. May act as a PIC of a charitable, nonprofit, or community event as described in 14 CFR Part 91.146
  4. May be reimbursed for aircraft operating expenses that are directly related to search and location operations (i.e. fuel, oil, airport expenses etc.)
  5. May demonstrate an aircraft to a potential buyer, as a salesman, with 200 hours of logged flight time
  6. May act as PIC of an aircraft towing a glider or unpowered ultralight vehicle, meeting requirements of 14 CFR 61.69
  7. May act as PIC for conducting flight test in a light-sport aircraft intended for certification in the etc.

3 takeoffs and landings in the same category, class, type
If a tailwheel must be complete stops
If at night must be made 1 hr after sunset / 1 hr before sunrise to complete stop
