practical investigation Flashcards

1
Q

aim and hypothesis

A

to investigate if there is a negative correlation between sleep and agression/ aggressive traits

hypothesis- experimental/ alternative, there will be a negative correlation between agression score, self reported questionnaire, and sleep, recorded mean hours sleep over 3 consecutive days

Q

procedure

A

standardised, all ppts were asked to track hours of sleep 3 consecutive days, and complete the buss Perry aggression scale, ‘ some of my friends think I’m a hothead’ …..

although correlational no direct cause and effect, other factors such as age, gender, tablets, caffeine could have caused correlation , therefore cant say low sleep causes higher agression

although high control over acquiescence bias reverse scoring questions 6 and 9 avoid inaccuracies if people have a tendency to agree with things even if they don’t agree increasing internal val ,….

Q

conclusion and findings

A

found that, calculated value 0.36 and critical 0.429 , one tailed p<0.05 n=16, results not significant therefore accept null hypothesis and reject alternative suggesting that there isn’t a negative correlation between sleep and agression

therefore our conclusions suggest that current treatment in prisons improving sleep patterns to decrease agression are ineffective and need to rethink treatment

also doesn’t support previous findings , krizan who suggested that poor sleep leads to aggressive impulses and fuels violence and treatment in prisons to improve seeping patterns decrease violence effective, and brain scans find that poor sleep limits the ability of the brain to inhibitt aggressive impulses decreasing reliability
