Practical 3 - Progression & Regression Flashcards
What are the 4 stages of response following a stimulus
Alarm phase (down from homeostasis)
Resistance phase (back to homeostasis)
Supercompensation phase (just above homeostasis)
Exhaustion/Detraining phase (just below homeostasis)
What should be considered when monitoring an athlete? (4)
External load
Internal load (RPE)
Physiological response (HR variation)
Physical performance test (CMJ)
What 5 categories are monitored in the athlete questionnaire? (rated 1-5)
Fatigue
Sleep quality
General muscle soreness
Stress levels
Mood
Mobility defintion
the ability to produce a desire movement
Stability definition
the ability to resist an undesired movement
Static stretch definition
Holding a particular joint at the end of ROM for a period of time
Dynamic stretch definiton
Performing control movements taking a particular joint through its active ROM
What 3 components make the core muscle group?
Local stabilisers
Global stabilisers
Global movement system
What do local stabilisers do
attach to spine - provide proprioceptive feedback to CNS & contribute to spinal stiffness
What do global stabilisers do?
stabilise the core during movements associated with increased force (speed, load)
what does the global movement system do?
generates concentric force production and eccentric deceleration
A weak or unbalanced trunk can potentially lead to which injuries?
back and knee injuries
