Practical 1 - Introduction Flashcards
S&C definition
The physical & physiological development of athletes for elite sport performance
S&C Coach role
Bridge the gap between the theory of training and applied training helping athletes improve and remain injury free
How is performance analysis prior to a S&C programme being planned? (3)
Movement Analysis - eg ROM, muscle action
Physiological analysis - strength, power, endurance
Injury analysis - common injury risk
What 2 things make up a athlete profile?
Training status - injury’s & technique level
Training background - training age & recent training history
Why is good posture definition & why is it so important?
A state of muscular & skeletal balance which protects the supporting structures of the body from injury or progressive deformity
What are key common postural defects
Scoliosis
Pigeon toe/duck feet
rounded shoulders
should height discrepancy
What are often causes of these common postural defects
Bone, ligament, muscle injury
Sport/stress related activity
nerve compression/stretching
What is adaptive muscle shortening/lengthening
When muscles rest in short/long position when body is out of alignment for extended periods eg in sport - causes muscle tightness or looseness
