What parts of the body can PPE protect?
Everything but mostly;
1. Eyes.
2. Head, neck and ears.
3. Hand and arms
4. Legs and feet.
5. Lungs.
What should you do before putting PPE on
- Is there a better way to do a job and is this the correct PPE for the job.
- Check the PPE for any damage or defects.
When is eye protection needed?
- When chiselling
- When working with masonry
- When drilling especially something that can shatter
4 using something cartridge operated.
- it is better to wear it when working above you to stop things falling.
What eye protection is available?
- Safety glasses.
- Safety goggles.
- Face shield.
- Welding shield (tinted).
When is foot and leg protection needed?
- With electrical systems and power tools.
- when handing battery’s
- When around other trades like grinders or welders.
- Bad weather conditions.
- With oils or other toxic liquids.
What foot and leg protection is available?
- Steel toe caps.
- Leather apron.
- High vis.
- Work trousers.
When is hand protection needed?
- When using sharp tools.
- When handing bulky objects to stop splinters or cuts.
- When working with chemicals.
- For extra grip.
- Keeps hand clean.
What hand protection is available?
- Gloves
- Leather
- Heat proof
- Chainmail
- Insulated
- Rubber
When is head protection needed?
- When there is a risk of items falling and striking your head.
- When on bulding sites.
- When you get told to put one on.
What head protection is available?
- Hard hat.
- Welding helmet.
- Face Shield.
- Accessorys can be added to helmets.
When is ear protection needed?

- When working in noisy enviroments.
- Under the “Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2006”

- Ear plugs.
- Ear defenders
When is lung protection needed?
- When working in dusty enviroments
- Near smoke
- Fumes
- Asbestos
What lung protection is available?
- Face mask
- Dusk mask
- Gas mask (For things like spray paint)
When is PPE needed?
- When you are told to put it on.
- When you deem it nessassary .
- When there is a regulation telling you to.
