Pozzulo (evaluation) Flashcards
1
Q
Name the strengths of the study
A
- Lab setting/ standardisation
- Validity and extranoeus varibles
- Quantitative data
2
Q
Name weaknesses of the study
A
- Low generalisability
- Low ecological validity
- Different metholdologies for children and adults
3
Q
One strength of the study was that it was conducted in the highly controlled setting of a lab, which allowed standardised procedures to be implemented.
A
- The same targets was every video and photoarrays in each trial (2 caucasion student M/F/ Dora and Diego)
- The videos were also standardised (6 seconds long, 2-3 seconds of the target, colour but no sound)
- Ensures replicability to establish relaibility. Ensures all ppts are exposed to the same stimuli
4
Q
- Another strength of the study was that it was high in internal validity as the researchers introduced measures to reduce the potentiality of extraneous variables occurring.
A
- Gave minimal information about the purpose of the study (Project about TV shows and video games/ study on memeory) to reduce demand characteristics
- Female researchers wore smart causal clothes to reduce social pressure that would elicit higher false positives
5
Q
The sample was not very representative of broader populations thus limiting the generalisations that can be made to a wider populace limiting the applicability of the study.
A
- Limited age rangs (children were 4-7) lowers g to different age groups/ older children this is crucial as the development of memory and susceptibility across age ranges differ.
- Private schooling backrounds (limits g to children with varying socio-economic backrounds) (ontario candada)
6
Q
One major weakness of the study was the that it was an artificial lab experiment that only simulated a real line up, thus severely limiting the ecological validity of the experimen and thus generalisbility to the real world or the actual expeirnces in the judicial system.
A
- The nature of the tasks such as identifying and rejecting cartoon faces, and watching the videos of mundane activities such as the human male target putting on gloves etc lack mundane realism.
- the experiment would not have the same urgency or emotional importance to the ppts as a real line up, the different social and emotional context of the study lowers ecological validity as the study attempted to study the social factors, which would realistically be impacted by emotions
