Andrade (evaluation, Issues And Debates) Flashcards
1
Q
Situational explanations:doodling
A
- As doodling affected recall, this means doodling has a situational effect on info processing.
-Andrade deliberately ensured her ppts would be bored and more likely to doodle, implying there are situational causes for doodling (boredom)
- The task itself may have led to an improvement in concentration and focus
2
Q
Individual explanations : doodling
A
- Ppts all doodled in differnent ways
- Which could be based on personality type
- Extraverts may need to do more than 1 thing at once to help stimualte themsleves and concentrate better
- suggesting **individual differences **behind doodling behaviour
3
Q
Nature: doodling
A
- differences in attention/memory could have been responsible for differences in recall.
- Which could have been caused by biological differences such as enlarged areas in the temporal lobe or hippocampus
4
Q
Nurture: Doodling
A
- Some ppts had higher scores then others
- peoples life experiences could affect their ability to focus on the primary task
- Some may use doodling to help them more. These experiences or habit could be learnt during school or as part of work related learning (more time in education)
5
Q
What is one thing people should consider before using the results of the study to apply to their daily lives?
A
- Doodling can be advantageous but the doodling must be UNDEMANDING as in Andrade’s study doodling was a simple process designed to not interfere with the primary task.
6
Q
Application to everyday life
A
-Workers and students should be allowed to doodle whilst working on boring tasks as this will improve concentration
