Powerpoints 2 - 7 Flashcards
Hazards Manual handling Safe isolation procedures Risk assessments Accident and Emergency Procedures
Power Point 2 - Define a hazard
Hazards are something that has the potential to cause harm or injury to someone
Power Point 2 - Define a risk
A risk is the likelihood of an injury happening as a result of a hazard
Power Point 2 - Specific hazards related to the installation and maintenance of electrical systems
Electric shock - Direct and indirect
Electrical burns
Fires
explosions
Power Point 2 - How can an electrical shock be described/identified?
An electric shock can be identified as; the physiological reaction, sensation, or injury caused by current passing through the body
Power Point 2 - What are the direct dangers of current passing through the body?
Direct dangers of current passing through the body are;
Stoppage of breathing or heart beat and burns
Power Point 2 - What is direct and indirect electric shock?
Contact with live parts is referred to as direct contact
Contact with live parts that should not normally be live is referred to as indirect electric shock
Power Point 2 - Explosions in electrical environments - What is intrinsically safe equipment
Intrinsically safe equipment is equipment that has been designed to not produce sparks
Intrinsically safe equipment and wiring shall not be capable of releasing sufficient electrical or thermal energy under normal or abnormal conditions. As to not cause ignition to a combustible or flammable atmospheric mixture in it’s easiest ignitable concentration
Power Point 3 - Manual Handling - What is an acute injury?
An acute injury is an injury that happens instantly after an accident when manual handling
Power Point 3 - Manual Handling - What is a chronic injury?
A chronic injury is an injury that happens after a period of time
Power Point 5 - Safe isolation Procedures
- Seek Permission
- Use an approved test lamp or voltage indicating device
- Identify isolation point, then lock off and tag
- Test voltage to ensure system is dead
- Re-test the test equipment
- Commence with work
Power Point 5 - Single Phase Isolation test

L2 + L3
L2 + Neutral
L2 + Earth
L3 + Neutral
L3 + Earth
Power Point 6 - What is an example of a risk assessment procedure?
- Identify Hazards
- Decide who might be at risk
- Evaluate the risks & decide precautions
- Record your findings and implement them
- Review your risk assessment & update
Power Point 3 - Manual Handling Procedure
- Think before lifting
- Bend your knees not your back
- Stand close to the load
- Grip the load at the base
- Straighten the knees
- Walk carefully
- Bend knees to lower item
Power Point 7 - What does RIDDOR stand for? and What is to be reported to RIDDOR?
Reporting of Injuries, Deaths, Diseases and Dangerous occurrence Regulations
The following must be reported to RIDDOR
- Deaths
- Injuries
- Occupational diseases
- Gas accidents
