Definitions - Employer
A person or body that employs one or more persons under a contract of employment.
Definitions - Employee
A person employed by an an employer under a contract of employment.
Definitions - Organisation
An organisation is an entity comprising of multiple people, such as an institution or an association that has a collective goal and is linked to an external environment
Definitions - Client
A person or organisation using the services of the company
Definitions - Statutory
Binding Law; It is a criminal act to contravene something statutory
Definitions - Non-Statutory
Not legally binding, however many non-statutory regulations are based on statutory ones
Responsibilities - Employer
To ensure the working conditions and standards of hygiene are appropriate
That plant and tools are properly maintained
That necessary safety equipment is provided - eg P.P.E. , dust and fume extractors and machine guards
Workers are trained to use equipment
Responsibilities - Employee
Take reasonable care to avoid injuring themselves or others as a result of their own activity
Co-operate with employer to help comply with health and safety at work act
Not to interfere with or misuse anything provided to protect themselves
What do the electricity at work regulations (1989) require?
Require people in control of electrical systems to ensure they are safe to use and maintained in a safe condition
What are the management of Health and safety at work regulations (1989)
Require employers to carry out risk assessments, make arrangements to implement necessary measures, appoint competent people and arrange for appropriate information and training
