Q

Define the EPR?

A

The Engine Pressure Ratio, or EPR, is the ratio of high pressure (HP) turbine exhaust pressure to Low Pressure (LP) compressor inlet pressure in gas turbine engine.

16
Q

How the mechanical, or magnetic drag tachometer works?

A

The crankshaft turn a drive shaft at half the crankshaft speed using gears, the drive shaft rotates a series of small magnets inside a copper aluminium drag-cup, the drag caused by the magnets makes the cup turn in the same direction as the magnets with gives us the RPM reading.

17
Q

How does the Tacho-generator and indicator system work?

A

The electrical tachometer makes use of a small three-phase AC generator which is driven by the engine gearbox. The output is used to drive a synchronous motor which in turn drives the tachometer in the cockpit.

18
Q

How does the Tachometer Probe and indicator system work?

A

This type of system is used on gas turbine engines. It comprises a toothed wheel, called a phonic wheel, that is mounted on the high compression shaft and a probe unit mounted on the case adjacent to the wheel. The probe consists of magnets and a coil, the rotating phonic wheel generates an electrical signal pulse, of which the frequency will be proportional to the engine RPM.

19
Q

The basic principle of a capacitance fuel gauge system is that the :

A

capacity of a capacitor depends on the nature of the dielectric in which it is immersed.

20
Q

Increase and decrease of engine power alters the?

A

Pressure bellows

21
Q

Larger aircraft, for gauging fuel, use what principle?

A

Electrical capacitance of the fuel.
