Q

Define the first priority generator and explain why the ship rotates the first priority generator every day.

A

The first priority generator starts up the first and shuts down the last in “AUTO” mode.
This is to make sure each generator has equal work which maintains the health of the generators.

Q

State the procedure to changeover supply from ship to shore.

A
  1. Reduce load on first priority generator until current 600-700A through turning off ballast p/ps, fire p/ps, etc.
  2. Under SHORE SUPPLY, press “CB ON” once “AVAIL” light is lit. First priority generator will bank out and shut down in “AUTO” mode.

8
Q

State and explain the 2 general methods for emergency stopping the generator.

A
  1. Cutting off the air supply - This will close the air flaps, no air can enter the generator, combustion cannot be sustained, the generator will stop.
  2. Cutting off the fuel supply - Cutting fuel supply to the generator prevents generator from running.
