Fire Main & Sprinkler System Flashcards
What type of fire does the Fire Main System fight?
Class A fires
What sea chests are in each engine room? State when each sea chest is used.
Low & High sea chest
Low seachest in open waters, High seachest at port or shallow waters
What fire pumps are in the FWD & AFT engine room?
AFT: 1,2,3
FWD: 4,5,6
What is the capacity and delivered pressure of a fire pump?
Capacity: 200m^3/h
Delivered pressure: 9.0 bar
In the engine rooms, which fire pumps are paired and usually used for fire fighting? What are the remaining fire pumps mainly used for?
FWD: 2,3
AFT: 4,5
Remaining fire pumps 1 & 6 are used for activating the bilge eductors
State the 9 locations that the sprinkler system covers.
- Armoury 1 & 2
- Gunbay
- Tank deck Zones 1 - 5
- Hanger/elevator room
- Ammo room
- Fwd/Aft Flight deck
- Aviation fuel pump room
- Aviation fuel dispenser rooms 1 & 2
- Mission planning room
Describe the flow of seawater from the fire pump to the hangar.
Fire p/p → Engine Room “Ring” → Connecting firemain pipes → Tank Deck “Ring” → Connecting firemain pipes → Hangar “Ring”
State the 3 tiers of control points for activation of fire pumps and their locations.
Tier 1: Group Starter Panel - E/R
Tier 2: RCV Panel - FWD E/R
Tier 3: SCMMS pg 44 - MCR
What modes must the GSP and RCV panel be set at to transfer control of the fire pumps to the GSP, RCV panel, and SCMMS?
To transfer control to GSP: GSP MANUAL
To transfer control to RCV Panel: GSP RCV PANEL + RCV Panel LOCAL
To transfer control to SCMMS: GSP SCMMS + RCV Panel SCMMS
State the 3 tiers of RCVs for sprinkler system and their locations.
Tier 1: RCV Cabinet - FWD E/R
Tier 2: RCV Panel - FWD E/R
Tier 3: SCMMS pg 44/45 - MCR
What mode must the RCV panel be set at to transfer control of the RCVs in the sprinkler system to the RCV Cabinet, RCV panel, and SCMMS?
To transfer control to RCV Cabinet: No switch required.
To transfer control to RCV Panel: RCV Panel LOCAL
To transfer control to SCMMS: RCV Panel SCMMS
Describe the 4-step sprinkler system activation sequence.
- Ensure presence of power supply to selected fire pump
- Ensure all necessary valves are at their desired operational position
- Select mode of operation & start the selected fire pump, THROTTLE (partially open) the FP O/B v/v to achieve desired Fire Main pressure. Check pressure gauge to 9-10 bar
- Open valves to selected coverage area
What’s the desired position of the operational valves before activating the sprinkler system?
OPEN the following valves:
High/Low S/C
FP inlet
FP outlet (RCV)
Supply to E/R ring for FP 2/3/4/5
Main Engine and Generator Emergency cooling v/vs
CLOSE the Supply to E/R ring for FP 1/6
Which 3 locations require 2 valves for emergency cooling in case the sprinkler system fails?
- Armoury 1 & 2
- Gun Bay
- Ammo Room
State the locations of the 3 valve connection points from Engine Ring to Tank Deck Ring.
AHU 8 & 9, Machinery Storage Room and Machinery Room
