Galley Suppression System & CO2 Flashcards
State the capacity of the range guard bottle.
State the contents in the range guard bottle, what class of fire it fights and how it fights them.
9.5L
Liquid chemical called Karbaloy(potassium carbonate), fights class F fires, interrupts chemical chain of combustion
State how the galley suppression system is automatically activated in the event of a fire.
The fusible link found at entrance of the silver exhaust hood & located above the hot plate will melt and break when temperatures within the hood rises above 65 Degree Celsius. Once broken, the A+ control box will automatically release the potassium carbonate
State the 5 locations of the discharge nozzles.
- Deep fryer
- Hot plates
- Inside the exhaust hood
- Boiler
- Galley Exhaust Ducting
State how the Galley Suppression System can be activated manually.
User goes to Range Guard Activation Point at STBD side of the galley, break seal, and flips cover (flipping cover cuts ventilation to the galley), pull on the activation lever to activate the range guard.
State the 3-step pre-activation procedure of the galley suppression system.
- Evacuate all personnel
- Ensure that the following openings are closed:
Two Galley Shutters, Galley Door, Door Leading to cool room (fridge) - Stop ventilation to the galley
Explain why a fire can start in the ducting system during a galley fire, thus requiring the need for a CO2 extinguishing system.
While cooking, residual oil is deposited in the ducting when exhaust is sucked out.
Provides sufficient fuel to start a fire when in contact with the galley fire.
State the capacity and pressure of the CO2 cylinder.
Capacity - 6kg
Pressure - 57 bar
State the location of the CO2 release box. State the activation process of the CO2 suppression system.
Outside Galley next to STBD entrance.
Step 1 - Open the release box. This will shut down the exhaust fan and close the fire damper automatically.
Step 2 - Tug the pull wire in the release box
State the safety regulations before entering the galley after activating the CO2 extinguishing system.
Use BA, lifeline and portable fire extinguisher and enters space only when space had cooled down.
Do not enter room before CO2 concentration is below 8% without BA
