Poverty is one the main causes of homelessness. Low income households lack the financial resources to protect their home if they face a life crisis .

A

Being a lone or single parent can increase the chances of living in poverty. The main cause of lone parent poverty is low earnings or lack of employment. Low rate of child support fro ex-partners and low levels of state benefits are further causes.

The Church-
The church aims to spread the benefits of the community to those around them. This is called outreach. Churches often either donate to food banks or have them themselves.

Charities-
Are non profit making organisation set up to help people in need in many different ways.

The individual-
Everyone has a part to play in helping others. Eg donation to charity

How does weather affect global poverty?

A

Some of the world’s poorest regions are located near the equator meaning theses countries are difficult places to live. They are prone to extreme weather eg natural disasters. These countries it also hard to grow crops and keep animals. Some often the most remotes don’t have health services or electricity.

Why does illness and disease affect global poverty?

A

Poverty increases the chances of poor health. Many countries do not have access to medical care, medicines and vacation. Lots of diseases that can be prevented in wealthier countries can lose lives in poor countries.

There are other reason why the entires family suffers from one person having an illness in poor countries:

It cost money for medical treatments
Loss income
Give up work to look after the sick relative
Depends on the disease but social isolation
Some families are made up from old and young because diseases have killed relatives.

Why is population a problem and a positive in poorer countries?

A

More people to feed in a family when already food is scarce. Having more children increases the chance that some would survive to adult hood. More children to work for the family to increase wages.

Why does lots of children have a lack of education and skills in poorer countries?

A

Lots of children that live in poor countries have to work instead of going to school. Without a basic education it is therefore hard to gain a well paid job.

A

1) . It equips children with literacy, numeracy and problem solving skills, which are important for day to day living.
2) . It offers the means to gain safer, better paid, and skilled employment
3) . It promotes gender equality.

A

Landlessness means not owning land. In many poorer countries people gain land by inheritance and it is an indication of wealth.

A

Emergency aid happens in the first few days of a disaster. This means it is in place until stability starts to return to the country.

What is long term aid?

A

Long-term aid is aimed at rebuilding communities that have been devastated by disaster. It helps to restore normality for people who have lost their loved ones, homes and businesses.

A

Fairtrade offers consumers a powerful way to reduce poverty through everyday shopping. It is based on a partnership between producers of goods and people who buy them.
