What is the definition of a family?
A family is a group of people mainly made up of adults and children living together.
What is the most common type of family in the UK?
Nuclear family
What is a nuclear family ?
It consists of a husband and wife living in the family home with their children. Grandparents and other relations maybe in close contact with the nuclear family but do not live with them.
What is a cohabiting couple family?
This consists of a couple and their children who decide to live together without getting married.
What is a same-sex couple family?
This consists of a gay couple either two men or two women and their children. The couple may be married or have a civil partnership or be cohabiting.
What is an extended or multi family?
This includes parents and their children as well as other relatives, possibly grandparents all living under the same roof.
What is Lone parent family?
This is a family made up of one parent and their child/children.
Protection in a family?
Children depend on their family for protect them and provide for their needs. A family unit provides a safe environment for bringing up children.
Support in family?
Healthy family life provides emotional physical and social support. This support helps people through difficulty and contributes too a healthy society
Care in family?
Families care for members when they are sick, have a disability and in later in life.
Companionship in family?
A family unit helps people feel that they are not alone.
Behaviour in family?
The family environment is where children first learn to interact with other people. To teach them how society expects people to behave.
Values in family?
A positive family environment instils values such as tolerance, respect and charity for a well ordered society.
Identity in family?
Families teach their children their beliefs and pass on their religious, political and cultural traditions. This which shape people opinions and to learn to respect each other’s opinions for a healthy society.
Explain 5 Things Christian parent’s teach their children?
1 Prayer - teaching their children to pray. This might mean learning the Lord’s Prayer or saying grace at the dinner table and praying together as a family.
2 Example- children learn by example this can be bad as well as good. Parents should set a good example for their children to follow.
3 Spending time together- this can be having a meal together once a week and talking not on technology.
4 teaching- Christian parents are encouraged to teach their children the Christian faith. By studying at home or taking them to church.
5 baptism- some churches parents can choose to have their children baptised as babies or infants. When a child is baptised their are welcomed into the family of the church. Hopefully thy will choose to continue to follow the Christian faith.
