Posterior Cervical Triangles Flashcards
Sternocleidomastoid O
Sternal head: anterior surface of manubrium of sternum
Clavicular Head: superior surface of medial third of clavicle
Sternocleidomastoid I
lateral surface of mastoid process of temporal bone
lateral half of superior nuchal line
Sternocleidomastoid Innervation
Spinal accessory nerve CN XI and C2 C3
Sternocleidomastoid Motion
unilateral: tilt head same side (laterally flexes neck) and rotates it so face is turned superiorly towrad the opposite side
bilateral: extend neck at atlantooccipital joint
flex cervical vertebrae so that chin approaches manubirum
extend superior cervical vertebrae while flexing inferior vertebrae so chin is thrust forward with head kept level
Anterior Scalene O
Anterior tubercles of transverse processes of C3 - C6 vertebrae
Anterior Scalene I
**1st rib (anterior scalne tubercle)
Anterior Scalene Innervation
Cervical spinal nerves C4 - C6
Anterior Scalene Motion
flexes neck laterally
Elevates first rib during forced inspiration
Middle Scalene O
Posterior tubercles of transverse processes of C4 - C7 vertebrae
Middle Scalene I
Superior surface of 1st rib (posterior to groove for subclavian A.)
Middle Scalene Innervation
Anterior rami of cervical spinal nerves
Middle Scalene Motion
flexes neck laterally
Elevates first rib during forced inspiration
Posterior Scalene O
Posterior tubercles of transverse processes of C4 - C6 vertebrae
Posterior Scalene I
External border of second rib
Posterior Scalene Innervation
Anterior rami of cervical spinal nerves C7 - C8
