Posterior Abdominal Wall Flashcards
origin of psoas major
- transverse process body and intervertebral disc of the 12th rib
- five lumbar vertebrae
insertion of psoas major
inserts on the lesser trochanter of femur
nerve supply of psoas major
lumbar plexus
action of psoas major
flexion in the hip joint on the lumbar spine unilateral contraction bends the trunk laterally while bilateral contraction raises the trunk from its supine position
origin of quadrates lumborum
- illolumbar ligament
- iliac crest
- tip of transverse process of the lower lumbar vertebrae
insertion of quadrates lumborum
inserts on the 12th rib
never supply of quadrates lumborum
lumbar plexus
action of quadrates lumborum
- fixes 12th rib during respiration depresses the 12th rib during forced expiration
- elevates the Ilium
fibres of psoas muscle move
downwards and laterally
psoas muscle passes
behind the inguinal ligament through lumbar fascia
medial arcuate ligament
thickening in the fascia covering the upper part of the psoas major. It is attached to the side of the body of the first or second lumbar vertebra, laterally, it is fixed to the front of the transverse process of the first and, sometimes also, to that of the second lumbar vertebra.
lateral arcuate ligament
ligament under the diaphragm that arches across the upper part of the quadratus lumborum muscle. It is traversed by the subcostal nerve, artery and vein.
iliolumbar ligament
iliolumbar ligament strengthens the lumbosacral joint assisted by the lateral lumbosacral ligament and five other ligaments
fibres of the quadrates lumborum move
upwards and medially
original iliacus
