post modern feminism , patriarchy Flashcards
post modern feminism agrees that oppression of women is widespread and systematic it critiques
the traditional concept of patriarchy by rejecting the notion of a single overarching system of male dominance
instead it views patriarchy as a
complex and fragmented set of power relations that vary across different cultures contexts and individual experiences
this results ins the experience of patriarchy being very different
for women of different ethnicities sexualities classes etc
post modern feminists argue that earlier feminist theories including those focusing on patriarchy often
oversimplifiy women’s experiences and generalised the experiences of white middle classed women
for example the second wave of feminism driven by white middle class women championed women’s right to work blind to the reality that
many women of colour were already in the work force frequently in undervalued and low paying jobs and were grappling with racial discrimination alongside sexism
by deconstructing the idea of a monolithic patriarchy post modern feminism highlights the importance of
intersectionality and understanding how various forms of power and oppression are interlinked and manifest differently in different contexts
this approach challenged universal narratives and calls for a more
nuance and inclusive understanding of gender and power dynamics
