liberal feminism , patriarchy Flashcards
liberal feminism doesn’t view society as
fundamentally patriarchal in the same way radical feminism does
unlike radical feminists who see women’s oppression as pervasive across all aspects of society including the private sphere, liberal feminists
concentrate on securing equality in the public sphere through legal and political changes that ensure women have the same rights and opportunities as men
they are reformist and believe that
gender inequality can be removed through legal and political changes including equal pay laws equal access to education , employment and increased political representation
they therefore don’t accept patriarchy , the idea that women oppression is systematic and pervasive across all of society including the private and public sphere and don’t believe that
society needs to be fundamentally restructured
a view that an acceptance of patriarchy leads to
this reflects how they are influenced by liberalism which focuses on
promoting freedom and equality within the public sphere
