What is a critical analysis?
Involves breaking down and studying every part of a text. Generally this is a subjective piece of writing.
Define phrenology.
The study of the head through external examination. Phrenology was one of the early criminological theories.
Define atavism.
An evolutionary throwback to earlier times. Generally used in biological criminological studies.
Define somatyping.
The structure or build of a person can change how they act or think.
Define endomorph.
A larger person generally with wide hips and narrow shoulders.
What is different about classicism and positivism?
Classicism doesn’t account for the personal situation of an offender generally resulting in harsher punishments whereas the positivist model does.
What are the 3 main points of positivism?
Focuses on offender rather than offence. Offences are driven by biological, psychological and other influences. Offenders should be treated not punished.
