polio definition
A
also known as poliomyelitis caused by a viral infection of the anterior horn of a motor neurone in the brine or spinal cord

why is polio uncommon
A
the heat have virtually eradicated it with vaccinations

how does the virus enter body
A
virus enters through the go tract during a flu like illness and then 2-3 days later causes paralysis of a group of muscles usually within one limb

consequences
A
sometimes motor function returns but it can cause residual paralysis where the sesory innervation is intact but the motor innervation to the muscle is not

management
A
splinting, tendon tranfers and fusion of a joint
