defintion
abnormal or defective motor neurone innervation of skeletal muscle due to lesion in brain, spinal cord, spinal nerves, neuromuscular junction or muscle itself
upper motor neurone disease caused by
lesion in brain or spinal cord
lower motor neurone disease caused by
lesion anywhere from the anterior horn of the spinal cord onwards
upper motor neurone disease symptoms
weakness, spasticity hyperflexia, hypertonia, babynskis sign positive (when you role pen on plantar surface of foot the toes should curl inwards but in this case they extends), deuse atrophy
lower motor neurone disease symptoms
weakness, flaccidity, hypoflexia, hypotonia, babynskis sign negative, enervation atrophy
