What is a pure culture?

What is a pure culture required for?
studying growth, metabolism, pathogenicity, and antibiotic susceptibility
What is a streak plate?
sample streaked over a petriplate. bacteria fall off over different areas of the plate forming colonies
What are the advantages of a streak plate?
it is quick and cheap
What is a spread plate?
sample will be serially diluted. There will be a known amount transferred from tubes to several plates. The samples will spread over the surface using a spreading rod.
What is the advantage of a spread plate?
more accurate
What is a pour plate?
sample will be serially diluted, known amount is transferred to several tubes of molten agar and then poured into petri plate.
