Plant Hormones Flashcards
what is the role of plant hormones
plant hormones make sure they grow in the Right direction
what is a positive tropism
the plant grows towards the stimulus
what is a negative tropism
the plant grows away from the stimulus
where is auxin produced in the shoot
near the tips of shoots and roots
if the light is shining on the side of the shoot where does the auxin move to
accumulates on the side thats in the shade than the side thats in the light
this makes the cell grow faster on the shaded side so the shoot bends towards the light
what is phototropism
when the plant grows towards light
what is gravitropism
when the plant grows towards gravity
what uses does Auxins have
killing weeds
growing from cuttings with rooting powder
growing cells in tissue culture
what uses does gibberellin have
germination of seeds
can force a seed to germinate earlier than it should
and
encourage plants to flower
and
make fruit grow larger
what uses does ethene have
controls cell division and the ripening of fruits.
bananas are normally harvested before they are ripe so they can be transported long distances and stored until they are needed
ethene is used to trigger the bananas to ripen just before they are sold in the uk
