What are the 3 planes of movement?
Sagittal, Horizontal, and Frontal
What movements occur at the sagittal plane?
Flexion and extension
What movements occur at the Horizontal plane?
Adduction and abduction
What movements occur at the Frontal plane?
Rotation
What is the Horizontal plane also known as?
The transverse plane
Specify the “Anatomical position”
Neutral position - palms facing forward
What is Abduction?
Movement away from the midline of the body
What is Adduction?
Movement towards the midline of the body
What is Circumduction?
Conical movement. Proximal end stays still and distal and makes a circular action
What is Rotation?
Movement about a circular axis
What is Supination?
Turning the hand upward or facing anteriorly
What is Pronation?
Turning the hand so the palm is downward or facing posteriorly
What is Dorsiflexion?
Movement that brings the top of the foot upward - toward the shin
What is Plantarflexion?
Movement that brings the sole of the foot downward (pointing the toes)
What is Inversion?
Turning the sole of the foot so that it faces inwards
