GHRH -> inc GH TRH -> inc TSH, prolactin Dopamine -> dec prolactin LHRH/GnRH -> inc LH/FSH CRH -> inc ACTH
what is given at the start of pituitary function testing
give GnRH/LHRH, TRH and insulin
what bloods are then taken in pituitary function testing
0, 30, 60mins - glucose, cortisol, GH, LH, FSH, TSH, T4, Prolactin
90 &120 mins - glucose, cortisol, GH
what would be a normal result of pituitary function testing
cortisol inc by 550nM
GH inc by 10 IU/L
if pituitary function testing showed decreased production of all hormones, what is suspected
prolactinoma
will also be very high prolactin
how is a prolactinoma treated
urgent hydrocortisone
thyroxine, oestrogen, GH, DA ago (carbergoline/bromocriptine)
how will a non functioning pituitary adenoma present
high prolacting (~2800) - but not as high as a prolactinoma
