What are pilot studies?
Small-scale version of an investigation that takes place before the real investigation is conducted.
What is the purpose of pilot studies?
To ensure procedures, materials, etc work
What is a single-blind procedure?
The participant is unaware of the details of the study (e.g. the aim of the research). Used to control effects of demand characteristics
What is a double-blind procedure?
Neither the participant, nor the research conductor is aware of the study’s aims. Controls demand characteristics and researcher bias
What are control groups?
Refers to setting a baseline. Used for the purpose of comparison
What is a control condition?
Used for comparison- each participant takes part in a control condition and an experimental condition
