Wild: FEMALE Body length female: 135 cm Body weight: 58-70kg MALE Body length male: 140-150cm Body weight male: 80-90kg (Central Europe) 200-300kg (Tusks)
Puberty of the Pig
Wild =18 months
Domesticated= 5-7months/ few breeds mature not

8-9months late/ 40-100kg boddy mass

Wild: Seasonnally monoestrus
Dom: Polyestrus, no breeding season, continuous breeder
Fertility/ Littersize of the pig
Wild: 4-6 piglets/litter
Dom: 8-12 piglets/litter

Wild: well developed, increased fitness
Dom: well developed but optic systemless effective
Both have GREAT SMELL
Genetic diseases/disorders of the pig
- PSS - Porcine Stress Syndrome
- Progressive Myopathy (lameness of piglets)
- Tremor type III - Increase muscular tremors in piglets
- PSE - Point mutation congenital, autosomal recessive, closure of calsium channels in muscles.
Races: Landrace, Pietrain
Clinical Signs:
- Sudden death
- Pale, soft quality of the meat
