Q

what did Piaget mean by young children?

A

children can only understand language once they have developed a schema for it and reached that stage in cognitive learning.

Q

what is a strength of this study

PEE

A

P- early language development is not random

E- kids often use 2 word phrases to refer to a certain object such as ‘mom car’ to refer the their moms car, both these words have a relationship to each other and create a meaning, if the child didn’t know the meaning it would be a series of disconnected words

E- important as it can be used to explain real life situations

Q

what is a weakness of this study

PEE

A

P- schemas cannot be scientifically measured

E- Piaget argues that understanding cannot occur before a schema is developed, but how do we know schemas exist? because of the lack of scientific evidence its difficult to measure

E- this is important as the lack of scientific evidence shows the theory is not based off solid evidence
