how is personal space different for different status
defines someone rank to someone else
people with different status have bigger personal spaces than people with the same status
what is one strength of this
PEE
P- it helps us with everyday life interactions
E- this helps us when communicating with people from different cultures, if we know a culture finds larger personal spaces distant and untrustworthy, we can avoid this so we don’t offend them, this is useful for people with jobs that interact with a wide range of people like a doctor
E- this is important because it shows this research has real life application
what is one weakness of this
PEE
P- used unrepresentative samples
E- its not possible to have a sample of people that have the same views on personal space as a representation of the culture, for example some arab men may prefer larger personal spaces and British men may prefer smaller ones
E- this is important as an unrepresentative sample lowers the ecological validity
