Q

How can GLP-1 be effective to treat obesity?

A

Reduce gastric emptying - satiety last longer - consume less food

Q

What is gastroparesis?

A

also called delayed gastric emptying, is a medical disorder consisting of weak muscular contractions (peristalsis) of the stomach, resulting in food and liquid remaining in the stomach for a prolonged period of time. Stomach contents thus exit more slowly into the duodenum of the digestive tract.

Q

Which two consitions can gastroparesis lead to?

A

Postprandial hypoglycemia (DM1)
- rapid insulin effect by injection
Postprandial hyperglycemia (tailing) (DM2)
- Slow and low insulin incremental release
- Slow gastric emptying

Q

What is relamorelin?

A

A ghrelin receptor agonist

17
Q

What does gut-derived GLP-1 stimulate?

A

nucleus tractus solitarious – important center in brain – nerve mediated response
Then nerve mediated effect into Medial hypothalamus where satiety is regulated
