Physiology and Anataomy (Training) Flashcards
Quantitative Data
Factual information and numerical information. (eg. cooper run)
Qualitative Data
Subjective information such as your feelings, opinion and emotion.
Validity and Reliability of Training
Validity: The test must be related to the skill tested
Reliability: Repeated tests lead to similar results.
Physiological Effects of a Warm Up
- Reduced chance of injury as increased elasticity of muscles
- Releases adrenaline
- Muscle temperature increases, so oxygen disassociates quicker from haemoglobin
- Increased speed of nerve impulses
- Allows rehearsal of movement physically and mentally
Physiological Effects of a Cool Down
- Keeps heart rate elevated and blood flow high which allows oxygen to be flushed through the muscles
- Removes remaining lactic acid
- Prevents venous pooling
- Limits DOMS

Type
Macrocycle
The large period which involves a long-term performance goal.
1) Preparation Period: General Conditioning
2) Competition Period: Refine skills and techniques whilst maintaining fitness
3) Transition Period: Rest and recovery to recharge and become injury free
Mesocycle
4 to 12 week period of training with a focus which is a component of fitness
Microcycle
Period of time repeated throughout the mesocycle.
Continuous Training
Training method where the athlete works with no stops. Improves cardio endurance and overall stamina.
Farrell Training
A training method that blends continuous training with interval training. It is high intensity and it works both aerobically and anaerobically.
Interval Training
Type of training that involves a series of high intensity workouts. Increases endurance, increased efficiency of the body and weight loss.
Weight Training
Type of strength training involving dumbbells and barbells to grow muscle size and strength.
Circuit Training
Workouts where people will go around circuits and do exercises at each station.
