- sound waves channelled through external acoustic meatus -> vibrate tympanic membrane
- tympanic membrane transmits vibrations through ossicles (amplification)
- footplate of stapes vibrates oval window creating pressure waves in perilymph
- hair cells on basement membrane moved, stimulating action potentials
- CN VIII -> superior temporal gyrus
