Desnity
Mass/volume
Speed
Distance/time
Velocity
Distance/time
Acceleration
Change in velocity/time taken
Weight
Mass x 10 N/kg
Pressure
Pressure is force per unit area
Pressure = force divided by area
Current
The flow of electric charge (electrons)
Measured in amps (A)
Potential difference
Voltage- is the difference in electrical pressure.
Measured in volts.
Resistance
The ability that a substance has to resist the flow of electricity in a circuit.
Measured in ohms.
Ohms law
Electric current is proportional to voltage
Diode
A device that allows current to flow in one direction only
When will electricity flow in a circuit
If there is a complete circuit and potential difference
Static electricity
Non- moving electricity produced by friction.
Magnetic field
The space around which a magnet exerts a force
Refraction
The bending of light when it travels from one transparent substance to another
Light
A form of energy and can be converted from one form to another
Insulator
A substance that does not allow heat to move through it easily
Latent heat
The heat taken in during melting and boiling
What things does heat depend on
The temoerature, mass and the nature of the substance
Radiation
The transfer of heat in rays, from a hot body without needing a medium to travel through. Radiation travels in straight lines at the speed of light.
Convection
The movement of heat through liquids and gases. The particles in the liquid or gas move and carry the heat from one place to another.
Conduction
The movement of heat through a substance withou the substance moving.
When does ice expand
When cooled below 4 degrees
What does the pressure in a liquid depend on
The height of the liquid above, and on the density of the liquid.
