Physics (Day 1; Displacement, Velocity, and Time) Flashcards
Understand the lesson
What is the difference between a vector and scalar?
a vector has a magnitude/size and direction, while a scalar only has a magnitude/size
Frame of reference
the point of view from which you observe and measure things from
Displacement
change in the position of the object
What is the formula for velocity?
velocity = displacement/change in time
On a position vs. time graph, what do the x-axis and y-axis represent?
the x-axis represents the time and the y-axis represents the position
On a position vs. time graph, what does the slope represent?
the instantaneous velocity
What does the instantaneous speed equal?
the absolute value of the instantaneous velocity
If a position vs. time graph is curved, what does that indicate about the object?
the object is accelerating
an upside down bowl means…
the object is negatively accelerating (the slope will turn from positive to negative)
a right side up down bowl means…
the object is positively accelerating (the slope will turn from negative to positive)
