Physics Flashcards
Electricity
A flow of electrons in a circuit.
Conductor
A thing that lets electricity and heat through them to a point. e.g metals
Insulator
A thing that does not let electricity through them. e.g. glass, plastic, rubber, air, and wood
What is the best conductor of electricity?
Transition metals
What is a bulb and which sign represents it?
SIGN :A circle with a cross in between the circle. It glows when a circuit is complete.
What is a switch open and which sign represents it?
Sign: 2 small circle with some distance and a line touching one circle but not the other. The circuit is broken.
What is a battery and which sign represents it?
Two or more cells near each other connected together with a dotted line. Two or more cells in a circuit. And pushes electricity around the circuit.
What is a ammeter and which sign represents it?
A circle with a ‘A’ in between. .Measures the flow of electricity.
What is a cell and which sign represents it?
A long line representing the positive side and a shorter line representing the negative side( both lines are vertical.) Transforms chemical energy into electrical energy. And pushes electricity around the circuit.
What is a voltmeter and which sign represents it?
A circle with a ‘V’ in between. Measures how much electricity is being used by a component.
What is a motor and which sign represents it?
A circle with a ‘M’ in between. Allows some devices to move.
What is a switch closed and which sign represents it?
2 circles with some distance and a line connecting them. It connects the components in a circuit.
Does electricity move at different times?
NO
What carries electricity around the circuit?
Wires
Will electricity flow if the circuit is open?
no because it needs to be closed.
Serie circuit
Has only one path so electricity can only travel from one path. If a serie circuit is broken then bulb will not light up.
Parallel circuit
Has more than one path and if a branch is broken the other bulbs will work.
Voltage
amount of energy released by a electron.
Current
Flow of electrons in a circuit
Resistance
Amount of contact that the electrons come into as they flow through a circuit. The more contact the more resistance.
Static electricity
When two objects, one positively charged and one negatively charged, when they come in contact the electrons from the negative particles will go to the positive making them both neutral( also can make one of them a bit positive depending on amount of electrons and protons.) It can only occur between:

Describe the relationship between the current and a serie circuit.
In a serie circuit the current will be the same as there is only one path.

Describe the relationship between the current and a parallel circuit.
The current will split as there is more than one path.

Describe the relationship between the voltage and a parallel circuit
There is more than one path so the voltage in it will be the same for he components.

Describe the relationship between the voltage and a serie circuit
The voltage splits depending on the number of components because it has only one path.

what is resistance
the amount of contact with the circuit.
what is the pyramid to find out of the current voltage and resistance
the voltage on the top
current on the bottom left
resistance on the bottom right
an acronym for the triangle of current voltage and resistance
caterpillars vary ranges
cats venomous rats
