Physical gathering Cons Flashcards
vegetation analysis
if transects are used things can get missed out.
movement could disturb wildlife.
high chance of error.
physically demanding.
vegetation changes across the year so choice of time is to be considered.
identifying plants could be challenging
stream analysis
it can be dangerous to carry out due to slipping, flooding, floods.
points of access must be considered, some may be restricted or overgrown.
humans have a large influence on rivers
some equipment such as flow meters require certain depths of water to work which may not always be accessible
slope anaylsis
can be time consuming to survey as lots of equipment is needed and is harder to do alone
easiest way to do it alone is a slope pantometer but it is less accurate and slow
microclimate
Digital equipment needs to be properly set up to ensure accurate data is collected.
Readings are to be done quickly so conditions don’t change.
Sites need to be chosen carefully , Eg path of the sun and wether rain can bounce.
Permission from landowners required
Soil analysis
Certain level of scientific knowledge is required.
Permission must be granted before extraction of samples.
Co-op is required from other departments. Eg biology
Certain amount of equipment is required, auger, shovel, oven, Bunsen, PH meter.
Beach profiles
Human activity may have an impact making results unreliable.
Constant change due to the sea and tides.
Changes may be long term, takes lots of time to study ( cliff changes).
Pebble analysis
A sampling strategy must be decided.
Sample size must be considered.
Judgement of stone shape and sharpest point differs.
Storms and weather may impact the results.
Using measures like the phi scale is quite complicated.
