Physcial Properties Flashcards
What kind of properties are there?
There is color and magnetism which is sometimes a characteristic.
Conductor of electricity , strength , flexibility , density.
States of matter
Liquid, gas and solids.
Ex- water, ice and steam.
Thermal conductivity
The ability to transfer heat.
There is also thermal insulator , which keeps it warm but isn’t the same as a thermal conductor.
Solubility
Solubility is the ability of a substance to dissolve in another.
Soluble can dissolve
Insoluble can not.
Solubility can change.
Water is the universal solvent.
Solute is the thing that dissolves in the solvent.
Physical properties
Information about matter that can be observed or measured.
Ductility
Ductility is the ability of a substance to be rolled into a wire. Copper is an example.
Malleability
The ability of a substance to be riled and pounded into sheets. An example is aluminum.
Physical changes
Physical changes do not change the identity of matter involved.
