Cell Cycle Flashcards
Cells pass through different stages called the . . . .?
CELL CYCLE
(1)Describe the process of interphase
Cells grow to mature size , does normal life processes, copies it organelles and chromosomes ;prepares to divide. (First step of cycle) also the longest phase
(2)What is mitosis ?
Mitosis is the process where one copy of DNA goes to each of the two new daughter cells; there are four parts to it .
Describe the first process of mitosis.
Prophase is the process in which chromosomes condense from long strands (chromatin) into rod-like structures , spindle fibers form between the centrioles and nuclear membrane breaks down.
Describe the second process of mitosis.
Metaphase is the second process where chromosomes line up along the center of the cell and attach to spindle fibers by using their centromeres. The nuclear membrane dissolves.
Describe the third process of mitosis.
The centromeres split and sister chromatids move to opposite ends of the cell, cell stretches out. Anaphase
Describe the fourth process of mitosis.
Telophase: nuclear membranes reform around chromosomes, cell begins to pinch in the middle.
Describe cytokinesis .
In this phase, Cytoplasm divides and organelles are divided between the two new daughter cells. In cells with a cell wall, a cell plate forms between the new cells.
