phys med wk 2 Flashcards
1
Q
what is the foundation for posture
A
the pelvis
2
Q
3 joint complex
A
- Anterior Joint = Disc and vertebral bodies (Weight bearing
and shock absorption) - Posterior Joints = 2 Zygapophyseal joints
3
Q
what does the anterior longitudinal ligament and posterior longitudinal ligament limit
A
ALL- limits extension
PLL- limits flexion
4
Q
what is a main evidence based goal of mobilization
A
reduce pain
5
Q
benefits of mobilization
A
- Reduce Pain (widely accepted evidence-based)
- Restore optimal ROM of segment
- Restore quality of movement
- Improve proprioceptive function (Via vibratory nature of
oscillation activating sensory mechanoreceptors) - Segment specific via contacts placed on or close to segment
being mobilized vs Manipulation (Grade 5) tends to have
collateral effects. - Improve kinetic chain function
- Reduce muscle guarding
- Compensatory mechanical stress on adjacent structures
6
Q
indications for thoracic mobilizations
A
*
Decreased ROM in the thoracic spine (Flexion, Extension, Rotation, Lateral Flexion) resulting in;
Pain in the upper or lower spine
Decreased sport performance such as; throwing, golfing, rowing, etc
Postural Issues (Upper Cross Syndrome, Forward Head Posture, etc)
Compromised chest expansion and thus lung expansion
