- They have no anus, gut cavity and have endocellular digestion instead

species include morphologically simple… like flatworms to morphologically complex like octopuses

their relationship within the phyla is unclear however, the name is derived from a similar larval stage that most of them go through called trochophore and the production of a lophophore in their larval stage
