Photosynthesis - Unit 3 Flashcards
Where are chloroplasts located and why are they green?
Cytoplasm, due to chlorophyll
What does chlorophyll do in photosynthesis?
Traps light energy from the sun and converts to chemical energy
How can glucose be used?
-stored as starch
-used for respiration
-used to make cellulose
Describe what happens in the first stage of photo synthesis
Light reactions
-Water splits to form oxygen and hydrogen in the chloroplasts
-excess oxygen diffuses out the leaf
-light energy is converted to chemical energy (ATP)
-ATP and hydrogen transferred to stage 2
Describe what happens in the second stage of photosynthesis
Carbon fixation
-series of enzyme reactions
-ATP provides energy
-Hydrogen from stage ones forms with Carbon dioxide from the air to provide glucose
What are the three limiting factors of photosynthesis?
-Temperature
-Carbon dioxide concentration
-light intensity
