Control and Communication-Unit 2 Flashcards
What does the nervous system include?
Brain , spinal chord, nerves
What is the function of the cerebrum?
Controls conscious thought and memory
What is the function of the medulla?
controls breathing rate and heart rate
What is the function of the cerebellum?
Balance and coordination
Where are receptors located and what do they do?
sense organs, detect sensory input
What does a sensory neuron do?
Carries a signal from the sense organ to the spinal chord
What does the inter neuron do?
carries the signal from the sensory neuron to the motor neuron
What does the motor neuron do?
Carries the signal from the spinal chord the the muscle
what carries messages along neurons?
Electrical impulses
What carries out responses?
Effectors
What releases hormones in to the blood stream?
Endocrine glands
What are hormones?
Chemical messengers that travel in the blood
When and where is insulin produced
when blood glucose levels are high, pancreas
What is insulin’s target organ and what does it do?
Liver, stores excess glucose as glycogen
When and where is glucose produced
when blood glucose levels are high, pancreas
