Photosynthesis in plants Flashcards
what is photosynthesis?
photosynthesis converts light energy to chemical energy, which is then stored in the bonds within glucose. Photosynthesis allows plants to create their own food in order to grow and develop.
what is the word equation for photosynthesis?
carbon dioxide + water ———> glucose + oxygen (with chlorophyll and light energy on the arrow)
what is the chemical equation for photosynthesis?
6CO2 + 6H20 ——–> C6H12O6 + 602
the plant cell / upper epidermis
clear, allows for the entry of light
the plant cell / closely packed palisade cells with chloroplasts
site of photosynthesis
the plant cell/ veins
to deliver water to the palisade cells
the plant cell/ spaced spongy mesophyll cells with chloroplasts
spaces help diffusion of carbon dioxide into the leaf through stomates and oxygen out
the plant cell/ stomates
holes in the underside of the leaf to allow entry of carbon dioxide. stomates can close to stop transpiration of water when there are high temperatures.
