Binary Fission Flashcards
1
Q
What is binary fission?
A
binary fission occurs in prokaryotic cells and it occurs when a parent cell splits into two genetically identical daughter cells.
2
Q
what is stage 1 of binary fission?
A
the circular DNA which is attached to the cell membrane, replicates producing 2 identical copies of the chromosome.
3
Q
what is stage 2 of binary fission?
A
the cell elongates with growth, separating the two chromosomes of DNA.
4
Q
what is stage 3 of binary fission?
A
the cytoplasm pinches off to form two smaller genetically identical cells.
