Q

What is a limiting factor of photosynthesis?

A

Limiting factors are those that limit the rate of photosynthesis and stop photosynthesis occurring any faster.

16
Q

How would you increase the rate of photosynthesis using limiting factors?

A

They would have to increase. (i.e. more light , temperature , CO2)

17
Q

What are the limiting factors for photosynthesis?

A

1) LIGHT INTENSISTY
The more light a plant gets the faster is the rate of photosynthesis. At night light is a limiting factor
2) CARBON DIOXIDE CONCENTRATION
The more co2 the faster the rate of photosynthesis
3) TEMPERATURE
The higher the temperature is the faster is the rate of photosynthesis ( ENZYMES work faster in higher temperatures)

18
Q

What is a method for a practical on photosynthesis and limiting factors?

A

1) Place the table lamp a certain distance from the plant.Count the number of bubbles in a given time.
2) Change the distance then again count the bubbles in a given time
3) Repeat for several values of distance (d)

19
Q

What does the inverse square law link?

A

It links light intensity with distance.

20
Q

Equation for light intensity?

A

d^2

21
Q

Benefits of a green house?

A

1) Glass traps heat which makes the temperature higher
2) Artificial lights which makes it a high light intensity
3) You can burn fossil fuels which releases co2

22
Q

What happens if we increase the temperature past a certain point?

A

The enzymes will denature and the rate of photosynthesis will decrease.
