Microscopes and organelles Flashcards
Who invented the microscope?
Robert Hooke
2 types of microscope
Electron microscope
Compound microscope
Advantages of light micrscope
Cheap
Easy to use
Advantages of an electron microscope
High resolution
High mangnification
Magnification?
This is how much bigger a sample appears to be under the microscope than in real life.
Resolution?
The ability to distinguish between two points on an image(the amount of detail).
Magnification equation.
Actual/real object
How many nanometers(nm) in milimetres(mm)?
1000000nm
METHOD
1)Use a dropping pipette to put one drop of water onto a microscope slide
2)separate one of the thin layers of the onion
3)peel of the thin layer of epidermal tissue from the inner surface
4)Use forceps to put this thin layer onto the water that you have placed on the slide
5)Put two drops of iodine solution on the tissue
6)Carefully lower the coverslip on the slide.
7)Use forceps to lower the other edge on the slide.
8)Put the slide on the microscope stage
Organelles not found in animals and just plant.
Cell wall,chloroplasts,and permanent vacuole
Cell membrane
Controls the movement of substances in the cell
Cytoplasm
Chemical reactions occur
Nucleus
Controls activities of the cell
Ribosomes
Where photosynthesis occurs
Mitochondria
Provides strength and support
